Footage has emerged of five people attempting to break into different cars on a Brisbane Street before getting “startled” by a security system and running away.
CCTV given to the Courier Mail shows a car pulling up to Windermere Ave, Morningside about 1am today.
The people in the video can be seen wearing hoodies, and holding torches. Two go in one direction, while the other two scurry looking at different cars.
An alarm system goes off and all four alleged offenders are seen running to the car before scurrying off immediately.
Jeff Wilson said his family were left shaken by the incident outside his house.
“My daughter was woken at about 1.10am from our camera, which has a built-in alarm that sends out a message saying you’re in an area you shouldn’t be in, basically, and please leave,” he said.
“It showed that five individuals in a car had been trying to break into the houses next door and across the road, as well as ours.
“None of these people seemed to like noise. Noise seems to be the distracting thing. You can have cameras, they don’t really care about the cameras. It’s the noise that upsets them, because it awakes everyone in the area.”
Mr Wilson said he had some people attempt to break-in a couple months ago but the same cameras had scared them off.
“It’s happened more than once, but it’s happened pretty much the same way, with the system we’ve got actually startling them, and they’re like cockroaches,” he said.
“The light goes on and they all run to the dark. So it was a good outcome. No one got hurt, no one was confronted, nothing was lost, nothing was damaged.”
