Widespread power outages across Brisbane after bamboo strikes power mains in Auchenflower

A power outage is impacting more than 2000 homes in the Brisbane City Council area tonight.

More than 2000 homes across Brisbane have been plunged into darkness after bamboo struck power mains in Auchenflower.

Energex said 2885 homes in the Brisbane City Council area were currently without power.

Five suburbs including Auchenflower, Bardon, Milton and Paddington have been affected.

There are 1441 outages in Auchenflower, 547 in Bardon, 94 in Paddington and three in Milton.

An Energex spokesman said there was no threat of rolling blackouts, with the outage expected to be repaired shortly.

Due to the incident, traffic lights in Milton are out, with motorists urged to proceed with caution.
