Government data has confirmed the steep increase of Covid-19 cases in the Whitsunday Local Government Area after the December 17 Queensland border reopening in 2021.
The Queensland Government’s Open Data Portal reveals the region recorded 315 Covid-19 cases between March 24, 2020 and January 4, 2022, with a significant spike in December 2021.

Proserpine - 34

The majority of cases (283) were still listed as ‘under investigation’ while 15 were confirmed as ‘locally acquired – contact not identified’, 11 were ‘locally acquired – contact of confirmed case and/or in a known cluster’ and six were overseas acquired.
