Whitsunday council past candidate David Paddon sentenced for common assault

David Paddon was charged with assault after putting his hands in the pockets of a woman’s shorts.

A past wannabe councillor to the Whitsunday Regional Council has faced a court for assaulting a woman at the popular cafe he owns.

Bowen resident David Paddon, who had presented as a candidate to the recent council election for Division 6, was facing the local court regarding events that occurred on February 9.

Prosecutor Sergeant Emma Myors told the court Paddon had walked into his cafe, the Horseshoe Bay Cafe after 6pm on that day.

Once he stepped into the counter area, he walked behind a woman and put his hands “in her short pockets” and pulled them.

“This action caused his hands to graze against her buttocks,” Sergeant Myors said.

The court heard the woman had asked him: “What are you doing?”, to which he had replied by “laughing at her”.

Paddon pleaded guilty to common assault in front of the Bowen Magistrates Court.

Magistrate Athol Kennedy sentenced him to a good behaviour bond of $1000 for a period of 18 months.

No convictions were recorded.
