After a long wait, Uber is coming to the Whitsundays.

The struggle to book a lift home has been a long standing issue for the community, especially for those going out partying in the holiday hotspot.

Whitsundays mayor Ry Collins said he was excited at another transport option.

“Any business that makes the lives of locals easier, while offering another earning opportunity, is certainly welcomed in Whitsundays. It is an exciting development for our community,” he said.

“The council has been working with them for a long time.”

Managing director of Uber ANZ, Emma Foley, said the company is on the lookout for locals who want to earn flexible money.

The Whitsunday Sailing Club announced on their Facebook page that the Uber team was organising three workshop sessions in partnership with them to meet with potential driver partners on May 24.

There is also a coffee catch up organised the next day at Fat Frog Beach Cafe to discuss how members of the community could become Uber drivers.

You can find more information about the sessions here.
