Two patients are in a stable condition after suspected Box Jellyfish stings in the Bowen area

A man aged in his 20s was seen running from the water and pleading for help, with witnesses rushing to treat stings to the man’s stomach, back and arm. A woman nearby was also rushed to Bowen Hospital suffering similar injuries.

A 25-year-old man and a woman in her 50s were rushed to Bowen Hospital after two separate suspected box jellyfish stings in the area.

The injured man was reportedly swimming in Horseshoe Bay in Bowen on Friday morning when he ran out of the water in distress, with one witness claiming the man was yelling, “Im stinging” as he exited the water.

“There was a few small groups swimming in the calm water, it was high tide and a bit murky,” she said.

“We all ran out of the water running for the vinegar.”

The group of swimmers applied vinegar to the man while calling an ambulance, with witnesses reporting stings affecting “his back, side of his stomach and arm”.

In a separate incident, a women in her 50s was also transported to Bowen Hospital with suspected box jellyfish stings after being transported from a nearby beach.

Both patients were transported in stable conditions.
