Whitsunday residents are locking down in advance of tropical Cyclone Kirrily, including a 1-year-old sheep Shirley, who hides under her favourite tree waiting for the storm to pass.
Whitsunday resident Jacob Sheedy said his one-year-old sheep Shirley has been hiding under a low palm tree in his garden in Mount Marlow for over six hours.
“She’s been taking cover the whole time.
“She goes back out but then as soon as it starts raining more heavily, she just runs back undercover.
“She’s definitely not having a good time.”
Airlie Beach has seen some huge tides this morning with the swell too.
Mr Sheedy said for the time being his baby sheep was fine outside but that if it was getting “any worse”, they would put her undercover somewhere in their house.
“We’re very protected by the mountain cover,” Mr Sheedy added.
Mackay will likely be spared the heavier winds expected in Whitsundays, but remains a part of the warning zone.
