Showbiz blogs are abuzz with rumours the first Australian season of popular reality show Below Deck will be filmed in the Whitsundays, and it could be any day now.
TV Tonight was first to report that the ninth season of the show will be based in Airlie Beach, and is due to begin at the end of April.
The show’s US producers at NBC Universal have confirmed an Australian spinoff is in the very early development stages, with details such as cast, location and filming dates “still coming together”.
There is no doubt the Whitsundays’ stunning coastal settings such as Whitehaven Beach and Hamilton Island would provide the perfect backdrop to the drama-filled franchise, which has previously filmed in locations such as Greece, Thailand, Tahiti, the Bahamas.
The show takes a behind the scenes look at life on luxurious privately-owned yachts, from the perspective of the young crew members or ‘yachties’ employed to meet the ever-changing demands of their wealthy clients.
