A Queensland man is facing serious allegations of assault against two women in public toilets in the Whitsundays as police urge anyone with information regarding similar incidents to come forward.

The Proserpine man was arrested following an incident on September 4.

Police allege the man entered female public toilets at Cannonvale about 5.40am and grabbed a woman from behind before he fled on foot up Beach Road.

Officers conducted a number of enquiries and as a result on September 8 charged a 36-year-old Proserpine man with one count of common assault.

Police are alleging the same man was involved in a similar incident on August 24, also at Cannonvale.

On that occasion it is alleged about 10.30am the man entered a female public toilet and grabbed a 60-year-old woman.

Following his arrest on September 8 he was charged with serious assault over the earlier incident.

He appeared in Proserpine Magistrates Court on Monday.
