Police officer kicked, hotel manager headbutted during pub arrests

Recent arrests show it can be a dangerous business asking a drunk man to give up his spot at the bar.

Police across the Whitsunday region have responded to multiple reports over the past week of rowdy pub patrons refusing to admit they have had their fill.

A 28-year-old man allegedly kicked a police officer in the leg as he protested his removal from the Queens Beach Hotel on the evening of June 20.

Police said the man was asked to leave about 8.50pm after creating a disturbance by jumping on tables and fighting other patrons.

Police allege he refused, got into an “altercation” with officers, and was subsequently charged with failure to leave a licenced premises, committing public nuisance, obstructing police, and assaulting police.

He is scheduled to appear at Bowen Magistrates Court in July.

Two days later, at the Prince of Wales in Proserpine, a 46-year-old man allegedly headbutted a hotel manager who asked him to leave about 1.50pm.

The Proserpine man was charged with public nuisance, obstruct police, and failure to leave, and is scheduled to appear at Proserpine Magistrates Court in July.
