Nathan Riley Huth in court after losing wallet and cocaine in Airlie Beach taxi

A North Queensland farmer paid for much more than the cab fare after a night out partying in the Whitsundays.

A young farmer who carried illicit drugs around in his pocket for several months had an extra pricey taxi ride home from a night out in Airlie Beach.

Nathan Riley Huth, 21, accidentally left his wallet, containing 1.2 grams of cocaine, in the back of a taxi on a night on the town with family and friends in October, and found himself before the courts this week after the driver turned the lost property over to police.

Proserpine Magistrates Court heard Huth only remembered being in possession of his wallet up until about 9pm and knew what he was “in trouble for” as soon as he saw missed calls on his mobile phone the next morning.

Pleading guilty to one charge of possessing dangerous drugs, he told the court he bought the cocaine for $300 and kept it in his wallet for about two months before the offence as he was “not a heavy user”.

When Magistrate James Morton asked Huth “Is it [cocaine] good?”, he responded: “Yeah – when you’re partying – I guess.”

Mr Morton fined Huth $450 fine and commented that it had been an “expensive snort” for the contract harvester.

No convictions were recorded.
