A Magistrate has condemned a boilermaker dad’s “disgusting” behaviour after he propositioned a teen worker at a local pub. It wasn’t his only bad boozy choice.

A father of two has been told to think of his daughter after he asked a teenage girl to take her top off.

Jason Christopher Mitchell appeared in Proserpine Magistrates Court which heard that in April, he attended two pubs and made a public nuisance of himself.

Around 5.45pm he went into Hotel Metropole already intoxicated and engaged in a physical altercation with a man already at the venue.

He was asked to leave multiple times before approaching a female staff member and telling her “if you were a male, I would take you outside and smash you”.

The court heard the 36-year-old boilermaker then attended the Palace Hotel where he went to the counter and handed $300 cash to a 17-year-old staff member, asking her to remove her top and expose her breasts to him.

He then stumbled through the bar area, knocking into another patron and making him spill his drink before getting into a verbal altercation with the man and continuing through the bar, putting his hands on multiple people.

Duty solicitor Danny Yarrow said his client had started drinking about 10am with a friend.

He said Mr Mitchell was not a regular drinker but was trying to keep up with his friend and when he did drink, it was to excess.

He said he had little recollection of the incidents and was “embarrassed” by his behaviour.

Mr Yarrow said his client did realise how fortunate he was to be facing public nuisance charges and not something more serious.

Magistrate Anna Smith said someone who was at work did not need an intoxicated man propositioning them and encouraged the man to think about his own young daughter.

“Imagine if she, when she was a little bit older, was working and some male who is 36 years of age and should know better is asking her to take her top off, how would that make you feel?” she said.

“It’s disgusting behaviour.”

Mr Mitchell pleaded guilty to two counts of committing public nuisance and driving unlicensed.

He was sentenced to 60 hours of unpaid community service within 12 months and a $300 fine.

Convictions were recorded.
