Hamilton Island man who flew in from Melbourne caught breaching quarantine order in Proserpine

A Whitsunday man ordered to quarantine at home after a trip to Melbourne has been caught out and about in the community.

A 53-year-old Hamilton Island man has put a Whitsunday community at risk of a Covid-19 outbreak by breaching a home quarantine order.

Police allege the man attended a Proserpine business on Monday, August 9 – three days after arriving at the Whitsunday Coast Airport on a flight from Melbourne.

Proserpine’s officer in charge Mark Flynn said police issued the man a home quarantine direction on arrival at the airport on August 6.

Sergeant Flynn said the man had now been ordered to pay $2756 in fines for contravening a requirement in a declared public health emergency and failing to comply with a COVID-19 direction.
