Gary Kramme fined for disorderly behaviour, drug possession at Proserpine Hospital

A drunk carpenter lashed out at nurses to the point they gave up trying to treat him and called the police. Then a search landed him in more trouble.

A Whitsunday carpenter will pay a $500 fine for groping and abusing hospital staff as they tried to help him after a messy night out.

Gary Kramme touched several Proserpine Hospital nurses on the buttocks and face without their consent and called one a “f*cking c*nt” as they tried to treat an injury to his hand in the early hours of the morning on June 5.

A 30-year-old female staff member contacted police, who attended and searched Kramme about 4.45am, finding MDMA in his possession.

After some time sobering up at the watch-house, he told police he did not know what the off-white powdered substance was and that he had “found it on the ground”.

At Proserpine Magistrates Court on Monday, Kramme pleaded guilty to conduct causing a public nuisance and possessing dangerous drugs.

Of his behaviour toward the nurses, he said he did not entirely agree with the prosecution’s account but: “It’s their word against mine.”

He said he ended up in hospital after severing his thumb, but could not remember how it happened or what type of alcohol he had been drinking that night.

Magistrate James Morton said hospital staff “don’t get paid enough to get treated the way you treated them”.

“Would you go and change somebody’s bed pan in a hospital? They’ve got a tough job to do without having to put up with people like you.”

No convictions were recorded.
