Furniture truck rollover blocks Bruce Highway south of Proserpine

The state highway was cut off for several hours after a truck rolled south of Proserpine, blocking the roadway in both directions. And delays are still expected.

The Bruce Highway was cut off for at least three hours after a furniture truck rolled in the Whitsundays blocking the roadway in both directions.

The single vehicle crash occurred about 3.45am Friday at Gunyarra, which is near the Whitsunday Coast Airport and about 11km south of Proserpine.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area as police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene.

No one was injured but a photo shows the state highway was completely blocked by the truck, which had rolled onto its side.

It is understood the driver of the vehicle is assisting police with inquiries into how the rollover occurred.

Queensland Ambulance Service stated two patients declined transport in relation to the rollover.

A heavy haulage tow truck was involved in the vehicle recovery.

Diversions were in place with the highway starting to reopen about 7.05am.

It is understood one lane is now open but delays are expected.

Workers from the Department of Main Roads will be attending the site for some bitumen repairs as a result of the crash.

Motorists are urged to drive to the conditions.
