Two Bowen brothers have faced court after a boozy birthday party that allegedly ended in a violent altercation with campers at their local caravan park.
Jack William Little, 19, and Benjamin John Little, 29, fronted Bowen Magistrates Court this week each facing multiple charges related to an incident at Rose Bay Caravan Park after Jack’s birthday celebrations on October 10, 2021.
The court heard both men consumed a “considerable” amount of alcohol at a small gathering at their parents’ house before walking to the caravan park and entering without the owner’s permission about 5pm.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Emma Myors told the court there followed a “dispute” with some “temporary seasonal travellers” camping at the park, during which Jack broke a fence paling “one of the other offenders has subsequently used in confrontation with other residents within the caravan park”.
Jack pleaded guilty to trespass and wilful damage and received a $400 fine, with no convictions recorded.
Benjamin pleaded not guilty to wilful damage, common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm, and serious assault of a police officer.
Police will allege the older brother damaged a fence and two tents, assaulted multiple campers, and spat on a male police officer in the course of the incident.
He is facing six charges in total, all of which were adjourned to next year. The court heard he intended to plead guilty to trespass and obstruct police.
Magistrate James Morton’s advice when handing down Jack’s sentence was to “think about other people's property and damaging their property”.
“When alcohol gets on board with you 19 year olds, you go stupid,” Mr Morton said.
“If you owned property and somebody entered that property, you wouldn't like it.”
