A delicious food truck is making its way up the east coast on a record breaking tour supporting local non-profits, and the next stop is the Whitsundays.
The Mr Potato Australian tour is stopping by Airlie Beach to serve up some delicious loaded spuds and raise money for Fauna Rescue Whitsundays.
The one night only event is set to be held at Coral Sea Marina on Monday, 19 May from 4pm, but get in quick, lines have circled the block at previous stops down the east coast with people waiting for hours to snag one of the signature baked potatoes.
Mr Potato co-founder Jess Davis, said she was so excited for Mr Potato to land in Airlie Beach.
“It’s one of Australia’s most beautiful destinations and the perfect place to share what our Mr Potato Australian Tour is all about - great food, good vibes, and giving back to local legends doing important work,” she said.
Ms Davis’ husband Tyson Hoffmann co-founded Mr Potato, saying they had been blown away with the response to the tour so far.
“We know Airlie Beach will be no different. Every town we visit has its own story, and supporting Fauna Rescue Whitsundays is our way of saying thank you to this incredible region,” he said.
Fifty per cent of all profits from the event will go straight to Fauna Rescue Whitsundays, a local non-profit, voluntary group who care for and rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife and give informative talks around the region.
They said an important part of their organisation is their 24 hour wildlife emergency hotline service which connects callers with the team of volunteers to provide assistance and guidance for wildlife emergencies.
The food truck has spent six weeks on the road and raised nearly $12,500 for non-profits across Queensland and New South Wales.
The stop in Airlie Beach will form part of a Guinness World Record attempt for the longest distance and most number of stops travelled by a food truck on a single road trip.
Ms Davis and Mr Hoffmann came up with the idea for Mr Potato when they noticed a lack of choices when it came to healthy, affordable fast food.
Both Ms Davis and Mr Hoffmann came from health conscious backgrounds, with Mr Hoffmann being a Adelaide 36er’s basketball player and Jess a former international model so they said they wanted to create something quick and simple that also filled their nutritional needs.
