A man who suffered significant burns, including to his face, was airlifted via helicopter, following an incident in a North Queensland coastal town.

Emergency services were called to Midge Point at around 1.30pm to reports of a man burnt.

The man in his 60s suffered facial burns, which a Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said appeared to be caused by a fire involving an accelerant.

CQ Rescue’s medical team was able to stabilise the man before flying him to Mackay to receive further treatment around 3pm.
