A Bowen single dad was forced to bear the brunt of a $17,000 damage bill and suffered three broken ribs after he decided to get behind the wheel while more than three times the legal alcohol limit.

The incident occurred on August 20, 2023.

Jason Allan Peacock, 47, crashed his car on Tracey St, Bowen as he went through three front yards before it came to a rest in the bush.

Prosecutor Lachlan Perry said police officers had taken Peacock to Bowen Hospital where he returned a positive result for a blood alcohol concentration of 0.180.

Mr Perry told the court the incident had resulted in “extensive damage” to the properties.

But Richards Rewald Lawyers solicitor Cleo Rewald said she disagreed there had been extensive damage as just “one panel of a fence” was broken.

She said there was “potential for damage” and that Peacock was “extremely lucky” nobody else was injured although he broke three ribs in the crash.

Ms Rewald added it had cost him $17,000 in damage as his car was not insured.

Magistrate Michelle Howard told Peacock there was “no excuse” for his behaviour and that “it should be a wake up call”.

Peacock pleaded guilty on Tuesday October 3 in Bowen Magistrates Court to driving under the influence in front.

He was fined $1750 and his licence was disqualified for seven months.

A conviction was recorded.
