How new border closures will impact Whitsunday travellers

The mayor has reassured residents strict measures are in place to keep them safe.

New border restrictions have caused pre-Christmas chaos across the state, but the Whitsunday mayor is reassuring residents that measures are firmly in place to keep them safe.

Greater Sydney, the Northern Beaches, Central Coast, Illawarra-Shoalhaven and Blue Mountains were declared hot spots on Sunday, meaning people travelling from these areas are not able to enter the sunshine state.

However, all flights arriving from Sydney into Whitsunday Coast Airport are still operating as normal despite cancellations of other routes across the country.

 

 

Passengers arriving on flights from Sydney will go through a police checkpoint.

Temperature checks will also be under way for all passengers on interstate flights.

Mayor Andrew Willcox reassured residents that measures were in place to keep the region safe.

"With our two airports in the Whitsundays, I can inform that both will be manned by police, ensuring that each passenger is okay to enter the region," he said.
