Gregory River man Oscar Jensen killed in ute rollover at Dingo Beach

A 24-year-old driver, killed in a vehicle rollover in the Whitsundays, can be identified as a former Proserpine State High School student, remembered by family and friends as a “true champion”.

A heartbroken Whitsundays father has described losing “a third of my heart, soul and life” after his son was tragically killed in a terrible rollover at Dingo Beach.

Tributes are pouring in for Oscar Jensen, who died on July 19 when his Toyota LandCruiser ute rolled five times on Dingo Beach Rd.

The young Gregory River man had been driving home from the pub when police say his vehicle, of which he was the driver and sole occupant, left the road and collided with a culvert just before 6.30pm.

Tragically, the former Proserpine High School student died at the scene.

Numerous tributes have been pouring in for the 24-year-old, who has been described as a “true champion”.

Oscar’s father Dean Jensen posted a tribute to his son on social media.

“Last night I lost a third of my heart, soul and life … I have no words … I will love and miss u (sic) until the day I die,” Mr Jensen wrote.

“The world has lost a true champion,” one tribute read.

Police have revealed the impact between the ute and culvert forced it to roll five times.

Another man who had been with Oscar at the pub and who had been following behind was first on scene and tried to save his life.

“Our hearts are all so shattered,” another person posted.

“I’m so sorry and lost for words.

“He’s left a footprint on everyone’s hearts and will forever be loved.”

“Sending our love Dean … he was a beautiful boy,” another posted.

The crash is the third traffic fatality in the Whitsunday region within two weeks after two men died in separate crashes within 24 hours in July 11.

Forensic crash officers are investigating the matter.
