An elderly Jubilee Pocket man has died in hospital after suffering critical injuries in a crash with an e-scooter at Airlie Beach.

The 83-year-old man had been riding a motorcycle when, sometime after 4pm on April 19, he collided with an e-scooter rider.

He had been travelling east on Shute Harbour Way towards the roundabout connecting with Waterson Way when the crash occurred leaving him fighting for his life.

A 30-year-old woman riding the e-scooter received minor injuries and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital in a critical condition and died on the morning of Wednesday, May 3.

Police investigators have made an appeal to the public for any witnesses to the crash to come forward, especially motorists possessing dashcam footage and nearby businesses with CCTV camera footage.

Barely two weeks before this incident a Mackay teen was seriously injured in an e-scooter crash in West Mackay.

The 17 year old was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition following an incident on George St on March 30 and was flown to Royal Brisbane Hospital later that night.

The elderly man’s death also comes just days after a Brisbane woman in her 20s was left in a serious condition following an e-scooter crash on Brisbane’s Bicentennial Bikeway.

Queensland Police have fined in excess of 800 e-scooter riders following the introduction of tougher safety regulations in November last year, with over half of the fines issued to riders not wearing a helmet.
