The Whitsundays is defining itself as a movie star destination with yet another film production hitting its shores.

Delta Goodrem is in Airlie Beach to film the lighthearted romance Love is in the Air alongside Britain’s Joshua Sasse, who starred in Fox’s Monarch drama, Roy Billing of Underbelly and The Chronicles of Narnia fame, and Mia Grunwald of Elvis.

Brisbane-based company Jaggi Entertainment is producing the film with Adrian Powers of a Forbidden Ground and A Royal in Paradise taking the director’s seat.

Goodrem will play a seaplane pilot flying in the tropics who falls for a man set out to sink her business, played by Sasse.

Screen Queensland CEO Courtney Gibson said the production would be 100 per cent Queensland-made with support of the Screen Finance Program, Regional Incentive and Post, Digital and Visual Effects Incentive.

“We are proud to provide end-to-end support for this latest production by Jaggi Entertainment — a Logie and AACTA-nominated company, whose Queensland creations have been hits for industry leaders such as Disney and Hallmark, and topped global Netflix charts,” Ms Gibson said.

“From the first day on set to the last day in the editing suite, Love is in the Air will generate approximately $2.25 million for the state economy and 70 jobs for Queensland cast and crew.”

Love is in the Air is the latest production to be filmed in the Whitsundays following Stan’s success with Black Snow, which was predominantly filmed across locations in Proserpine.

There was also Universal Pictures’ Ticket to Paradise starring Hollywood heavy-hitters Julia Roberts and George Clooney.

Whitsunday Regional Council agenda documents reveal Red Thread Studios had also filmed in the region across February including at Lake Proserpine.

Details of Red Thread’s movie are yet to be revealed.

Goodrem, who recently made headlines when a Whitsunday region florist hand-delivered an abundant bunch of roses on Valentine’s Day, said she felt “incredibly fortunate to be shooting in the Whitsundays with the community making her “feel so welcome”.

“I’m enjoying being back on set, portraying a go-getter like Dana and I’m looking forward to sharing the film with audiences,” she said.

Mulgrave MP Curtis Pitt said the state government was backing regional film productions, including through the imminent construction of a $12.6 million Screen Queensland Studio in Cairns.

Mr Pitt said there was a further $4 million to be rolled out throughout North Queensland to “upskill creative talent from Townsville to the Torres Strait”.

“This is the fourth production that Jaggi Entertainment has brought to the north after Netflix smash This Little Love of Mine and teen series Dive Club, which demonstrates how this new facility is set to reinforce and grow existing demand for filming in our northern regions,” he said.
