A Whitsundays man has captured the moment two salties got into an almighty stoush in the state’s north.
Proserpine local Steve Rix shared on a Facebook group photos of two crocodiles in a fight, with one being local identity “Boofhead”.
Boofhead was apparently fighting against a new croc that came to the Proserpine River in August and has since been nicknamed “Hunka” according to Mr Rix.
Whitsunday Crocodile Safari owner Steve Watson said the fight was observed by one of his staff Steve Rix when he was on a safari tour.
He said “Boofhead” had been living in the Proserpine river since 2000 when they started operating their business and he had named the saltie the first time he saw him.
He said crocodiles “move all the time” in areas where other crocodiles are and fight for “all sorts of things” like territory, food, females or nesting sites.
People on Facebook were following the updates of the fight with excitement as Mr Rix told them what happened.
“That would’ve been awesome to watch,” Bene Wilson posted.
Boofhead apparently lost the fight with the other croc and has been “moved on”, Mr Rix had posted early in the afternoon.
“He is currently sitting opposite our stairs at croc safari licking his wounds,” he said.
Brian Nelson shared his amazement at the “mad pics” underneath the post, and said he could not believe “my old man on occasions would get me and an Aboriginal mate to drag the net for bait in Prossy River”.
