Crocodile removed from Laguna Quays golf course near Proserpine, Mackay

Authorities have evicted an unwelcome guest after he made himself a little too close to comfort for resort guests and residents.

Monster 4m crocodile spotted on banks of Sandy Creek

A large crocodile has been given the boot from a Queensland resort after wandering onto the golf course.

A member of the public dobbed-in the scaly guest to authorities after spotting it in a pond at the Turtle Point golf course in Laguna Quays, about 20 minutes’ drive south of Proserpine.

A Department of Environment and Science spokeswoman said the crocodile was reported to be between 2 to 2.5m long.

“Wildlife officers conducted two night time and two day time assessments,” the spokeswoman said.

“Based on its large size and proximity to people, the animal was declared a problem crocodile and a floating trap was installed.”

The spokeswoman said the crocodile, most likely a five-to-seven-year-old male, was captured and removed on July 27.

At least three other sightings of crocodiles in the creeks surrounding Laguna Quays were also reported to DES in the weeks before this crocodile’s eviction.

“Laguna Quays is known croc country and the golf course is close to several creeks and rivers,” the DES spokeswoman said.

“It is common for crocodiles to enter golf course ponds in croc country as they provide good refuge, food and access to freshwater.”

It is not the first time crocodiles have been problematic at Laguna Quays, with wildlife officers called in to catch a juvenile crocodile in 2003 which had made itself at home in the water sports lagoon.

The DES spokeswoman said it was important for everyone to be Crocwise in croc country.

The public can report crocodile sightings by using the QWildlife app, phoning 1300 130 372, or heading online.
