A Sunshine Coast man who moved up to North Queensland two years ago is selling his water sports business after a catastrophic crash in an off-road bike race.
Don Scriven, 62, is now looking to sell Bowen Paddleboard and Kayak Hire, due to his injuries.
In September, Mr Scriven took part in the Don River Dash dirt bike race.
During the race he came off the track and ended up in hospital with two fractured vertebrates, two snapped hamstrings and other injuries.
“It's thrown me in a bit of a whirlwind trying to walk again,” Mr Scriven said.
Following the accident Mr Scriven will need two hip replacements and struggles with the day-to-day physical work required to run the business.
Bowen Paddleboard and Kayak Hire consists of six paddleboards, one kids paddleboard, two double kayaks, five single kayaks, three kids kayaks and the transport trailer.
He started it as a way to “get the kids off their computers”.
“Give all the holiday kids something to do … all the adults, all the tourists,” Mr Scriven said.
Over the last five months he worked around 40 days, pulling in more than $1000 some weekends.
“It’s a good little cash business,” he said.
The $15,000 business comes with the equipment, permits and licences required to run it, T-shirts, brochures, life jackets and stinger suits.
He said if using the trailer for paddleboarding did not interest buyers, it was also set up as a camping trailer.
“There’s a lot in the market I haven’t even touched yet … there’s plenty of potential there for someone,” he said.

“I would consider selling just the business with all equipment and permits less the trailer,” he said.
