Two female visionaries are at the helm of the second installation of a beauty salon combining it with a new fashion boutique in downtown Bowen.
Forming a friendship seven years ago when they met at Mission Beach, beautician Summer North and designer Tiara Mea are the powerhouses behind Bowen’s newest business venture, Evolution Beauty Whitsundays and Euphoria Creations.
Ms North said she started the original Evolution Beauty salon in Cairns after outgrowing her space at home during the pandemic.
“I started a home salon in Cairns in April last year, just before lockdown and it blew up,” she said.
“By October I had to hire my first staff member – at home.
“And we quickly outgrew that, so I opened my first salon in November last year.”
Qualifying as a beautician in December 2019, Ms North said it had been a whirlwind experience watching her business expand.
“I lash differently and the fact I have learnt from three different trainers as well as at TAFE has given me my own style,” she said.
“It’s such a growing industry and there are so many ways of learning it and so many different techniques.”
Visiting her mum who recently moved to Bowen, Ms North said she fell in love with the town and knew she wanted to establish herself here.
Alongside Tiara Mea, who is behind the progressive fashion boutique Euphoria Creations, the two friends have remodelled the spacious shopfront on William Street using dusky pinks, archways and minimalist features to create a space imbibed with character and sass which Ms North says “brings life to Bowen”.
“We renovated the whole shop ourselves,” Ms North said. “I even built the archways and the walls for the beauty salon which I had to learn how to do.
“But I just did it.”
The fashion boutique is an eclectic mix of well thought out basics, swimwear and accessories with some of the products made using sustainable material including hemp.
The beauty rooms are positioned towards the back, where Ms North offers lashing, brow sculpting and cosmetic teeth whitening, with infills available from February.
Since opening on Monday, Ms North has already received a stream of bookings.
“We’ve been open two days and I thought it was cruisy but then I opened and I was booked til the new year,” she said.
“Bowen is changing and a lot of people thrive from our atmosphere.
“Everyone’s loving it and it’s something I’m passionate about so it doesn’t feel like I’m working.
“The sky is the limit.”
