Week of wet weather to drop up to 50mm on south east Queensland, as Lucas speeds off coast

Southeast Queensland is in for a wet week, with up to 50mm of rainfall predicted over the next eight days.

Climate change is already here and it's getting worse

Parts of southeast Queensland are tipped to see up to 50mm of rainfall over the next eight days, coming as a part of a larger rain system that’s set to drop even larger falls across NSW and Victoria.

The potential wet week comes as now Tropical Cyclone Lucas continues to move away from the northern Queensland coast, with it expecting to “dry out the air” across the region for the next few days.

A band of storms making its way through NSW and Victoria is being tipped to spread its influence north over the southern Queensland border, with Sky News Weather Meteorologist Rob Sharpe predicting the outskirts of the system could deliver up to 50mm of rain over the next eight days.

“(The band) is going to be rain and thunderstorms coming through eastern Victoria, central New South Wales, and then out into the east on Tuesday – with another low set to creep up the southeast corner and enhance the wet weather across the inland areas as well,” Mr. Sharpe said.

“Storms for Queensland on Wednesday, which will primarily hit those inland regions – before Thursday dries things up.

“All up over the next eight days, 25 to 50mm from southeast Queensland down and across into eastern Victoria – and heavy falls all to come across all the northern parts of Australia,”

The rain is set to return to Queensland’s top end as Tropical Cyclone Lucas today dried out the air in the region, with most of the moist remains being blown out to sea.

“It will dry out the air for the next two days or so,” meteorologist Felim Hanniffy said yesterday.

“We still might have the odd shower as the system moves away but by Tuesday we will have sunny conditions for a time anyway.”

The Bureau of Meteorology expects unsettled conditions to return to the Far North in the second half of the week.
