The chilling westerly winds have passed and southern Queensland will get a taste of summer with 30C temperatures by the end of the week.
Southern and western parts of the state will see temperatures 5C above average this week with Roma reaching 30C, Ipswich 29C and Brisbane 27C on Thursday and Friday.
Westerly winds brought jumpers and jackets out over the weekend with Toowoomba having a “feels-like” temperature of just 2C on Monday.
But BoM meteorologist Peter Markworth said rain would come by the weekend so trips to the coast may have to come early this week.
“We’ve had some Ekka westerlies, named after the festival which is pretty common this time of year, they usually follow a trough and can get quite strong, especially from the west,” Mr Markworth said.
“It will be 4C above average in the city so it’s not typical temperatures we see in August but considering we have a trough moving towards us we generally see warmer temperatures ahead of that.”
Angie Parker and her family are an outdoorsy family who love warmer weather but they are sceptical about it getting warmer this week.
“The westerly winds are here, is it really getting hotter this week?” Ms Parker said.
“What can you say, nothing beats Queensland weather, period. People don’t realise how lucky they are.”
