Heatwave conditions will grip most of Queensland in the lead-up to Christmas Day after wild dust storms lashed the state’s central west where temperatures hit
42C-plus.
Brisbane sizzled through its warmest day since October on Monday, reaching 33.3C on Monday. The Bureau of Meteorology's Helen Kirkup said storms were likely to move across the state and into the southeast corner in time for Christmas.
Brisbane will get to 32C over the next two days before dropping to 28C on Christmas Day.
“The trough that’s moving across will be affecting the eastern part of the state by Saturday,” Ms Kirkup said. “We’re probably going to see a good chance of getting some showers or storms. It won’t be a day of rain, it’ll be more fine and sunny and then it’ll be cloudy and then a storm. Just a typical summer’s day really.”
Mother-of-two Alexi Dragan said her son Lenny enjoyed the sunshine at Noosa River Jetty.
“The weather was absolutely beautiful,” Ms Dragan said.
“It’s been feeling pretty steamy. I can imagine we have a change in weather coming.”
