FAMILIES are being told to make the most of the beautiful sunny days while they last, with thunderstorms likely to stretch across the southeast by the weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting wind and rain to start creeping in from the southwest on Thursday afternoon, getting stronger on Friday with rainfall up to 10mm predicted for Brisbane and 15mm on the Gold Coast throughout the day.

Storms might also hit the region as temperatures stay warm, with Brisbane expected to reach 26C and 27C on Saturday and Sunday, despite the rain.

On the coast conditions are also expected to be much the same, reaching tops of 26C on the Sunshine Coast and 25C on the Gold Coast during the weekend.

Today Brisbane can expect a partly cloudy top of 24C, while the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are both forecast to reach 23C.

Inland Ipswich is predicted to hit 26C while Toowoomba is heading for a top of 23C.

Last weekend rain, wind and freak hailstorms lashed southern parts of the state, with reports of damage from large hailstones from Childers to the Scenic Rim region.
