Queenslanders beaming for weekend of sunshine

Sun-starved Queenslanders will finally get their wish this weekend with blue skies across most of the state – but some places you’ll still need to pack a jumper. SEE THE FORECAST

Weather To Watch

Blue skies are back and Queenslanders are beaming at the prospect of a weekend under the sun.

Fine conditions are forecast for most of the sunshine state across the weekend with temperatures reaching 25C in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

The possibility of light showers remains for parts of the southeast, including the Gold Coast, but business owners are excited for brighter days on the way.

“It puts a smile on everyone’s face,” Linda Spiteri from Go Vertical Stand up Paddleboarding said.

“I think we've actually taken the sunshine for granted and we’ve had a huge awakening, we’ve learnt not to take it for granted.”

Ms Spiteri said less rain on the forecast took a load off her shoulders after a tough few months of trade.

She was thrilled on Friday to gear up travellers Emily Giesler and Alex Kadar for a beach day.

Business has been down for beachside activities and Ms Spiteri said it was hard to remember the last week of completely clear skies.

Shane Kennedy from the Bureau of Meteorology said Queensland was in for a break from the moderate to heavy rain, but conditions wouldn’t be perfect.

There’s still a possibility of light showers in the southern interior, and pushing across the southern coastal fringe this morning before moving offshore in the afternoon.

“But otherwise, mostly sunny conditions across majority of the state on Saturday and on Sunday, again we may see a light shower on the Granite Belt, but it should be sunny for the rest of the state,” Mr Kennedy said.

The nights could be cool, dipping to 15C across the southeast and below 10C around Stanthorpe.

A fast moving trough to move across southern Queensland on Monday could bring another shower or two before winds pick up on Tuesday.
