‘First ever play in the rain’: Storms and showers hit regional Queensland

Regional Queensland has been soaking up some much-needed rain, and these brothers have enjoyed their first taste.

Extreme Weather Outlook

RAIN pelted the Sunshine State again today, flooding back yards and giving the Flohr brothers their first opportunity to play together in the rain.

Casey Flohr shared the photo of his young boys, Jack and Ryan spalshing in puddles on their property northwest of Clermont.

“98mm so far since 4:00am this morning,” he wrote.

It was a welcome deluge for the town in the partially drought declared Isaac region, and the first that 18-month old Jack had experienced.

“Little boys’ first ever play in the rain! And probably the first that the biggy can even remember,” Kate Flohr wrote about her sons.

Many parts of inland Queensland, from the northwest to the centre and south, are in line for heaving rainfall and possible flash flooding this afternoon and this evening, according to the weather bureau.

Storm warnings have been issued for Dalby, Roma, Emerald, Mount Isa, Clermont, Cloncurry, Goondiwindi, Blackwater, Comooweal, Collinsville, Camooweal, Tara and Moranbah.

In Cooyar, near Toowoomba, residents have already reported falls of 54mm from storms this afternoon.

Already today 40.6mm has been recorded in Moranbah, with more storms expected tomorrow.

“It’s pissing down,” Moranbah resident Heidi Bruce wrote in a facebook post this afternoon.

“We’re getting a huge downpour right now,” Rachel Barney, another Moranbah local, wrote.

“Our front yard is flooding.”

Earlier, storms knocked out power to more than 3000 properties in the Somerset council region, but the warning was cancelled at 3.25pm.

It comes after early morning storms delivered rainfalls of up to 65mm in just an hour before sunrise.
