Widespread thick fog has covered parts of Queensland on Saturday morning as a result of light winds and moisture in the air.
The extensive fog and low cloud was impacting several regions across the state, according to Bureau of Meteorology’s Pieter Claassen.
“The fog is pretty widespread over the southeast coast district extending all the way towards the eastern Darling Downs this morning as well,” he said.
“North Kingaroy has got a bit of fog and low cloud, even far up in the northern tropics we’re seeing some fog around Mareeba and the Tablelands extending to Cairns as well.”
“In the Gulf of Carpentaria a little bit of fog and low cloud through there as well.”
Mr Claassen said the fog was caused by light winds and low level moisture combining to create cloud on the ground.
“We’ve had light winds, particularly in the southeast from a trough pushing offshore, we’ve had all that rainfall come through yesterday and that’s helped to create more moisture at ground level.”
Brisbane could expect to reach a top of 23C on Saturday with clear skies and light winds once the fog lifted.
