IT SEEMS farmers won’t get a break this Christmas, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting summer will be a scorcher, and months of above-average rainfall is needed to repair fire damages.
The bureau’s Wet Season Outlook for 2019-2020 yesterday confirmed Queensland’s dry spell was expected to continue into the new year.

Weather bureau forecaster Sam Campbell said Queensland could expect to see temperatures 2C above average over the next month.
“Our current outlook for next month predict drier-than-average conditions across Queensland,” Mr Campbell said.
“We’re also likely to see warmer than average days and nights.”
Weather experts say it will take the state a long time to recover from the recent fires.
“Several months of above-average rainfall would be needed to see a recovery from current long-term rainfall deficiencies,” Mr Campbell said.
However the bureau shared some positive information for residents living in areas plagued by tropical cyclones.
“The season’s tropical cyclones aren’t predicted to spike above the eastern region’s average,” Mr Campbell said.
“We’re expecting below-average tropical cyclones for this season throughout Australia.
“However parts of Queensland are likely to experience a tropical cyclone before end of the current cyclone season, which ends on April 30.”
The bureau stresses its main message was “know your weather, know your risk” to be ready and stay safe.
“It only takes one cyclone across the coast for it to be a significant season,” Mr Campbell said.
