Today is the winter solstice - the official shortest day of the year.
Heavily steeped in ancient tradition, the winter solstice or the midwinter day signals the shortest day of the year in terms of daylight hours.
The sun is set to officially rise at 6.37am and set at 5.01pm; making our “shortest day” the longest among all the other states.
Weatherzone metrologist Brandon Debris said this year’s winter solstice was shaping up to be beautiful.
“Temperatures will most likely climb up to the low 20s with the day staying mostly dry and fairly light winds. Looking to be a pretty nice day,” he said.
“The sunrise and sunset times are pretty normal for Queensland, definitely not an out-of-the-ordinary winter solstice.”
Brisbane is set for a top of 22, while the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast should hit 21.
