Parts of South East Queensland have been woken by thunder and heavy showers as a trough system moves across the region.
The weather bureau warned another 15mm should fall within the next 24 hours before a proper storm hits South East Queensland on Saturday.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Helen Reid said a trough system is moving through Western Queensland towards the southeast today.
“We’ve got some showers, even a rumbling of a bit of a thunderstorm as well, but we haven’t had much rain in Brisbane itself only a couple of millimetres,” Ms Reid said.
“Through the Darling Downs, we had a lot of places with 10 millimetres”.
Ms Reid said the rainfall around Brisbane will be on and off all day with an occasional rumble of thunder.
“But by the time you get to Sunday, that trough should have moved offshore and you’re looking at it being a much sunny situation on Monday on,” she said.
“It’s not until Tuesday that we see the next trough system moving through, so we’ve got a couple of wet days, couple of clear days, and then a couple more wet days.”
Ms Reid said the mercury is set to soar to 29 Celcius in Brisbane tomorrow.
“We’re looking at it being a little bit warmer than average, the average for Brisbane is really at around 26,” she said.
“So that’s quite warm and we’re continuing to be warm right through until Tuesday, then temperatures should start to drop back to about 27.”
Although Spring has sprung, Ms Reid said don’t be fooled by the warmer temperatures because a “significantly cooler system” is due to move through mid next week.
