A road weather alert has been issued for Brisbane drivers after the South East woke under a thick blanket of fog on Thursday morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology warning said that “reduced visibility in fog will make road conditions dangerous this morning in the Brisbane Area.”

Bureau forecaster Brooke Pagel said that the fog would mostly disappear by 9am.

“We’re already starting to see it disappear from some of those higher areas, but around the city it is still pretty thick and heavy,” she said.

Ms Pagel said that the fog had been caused by moist onshore winds interacting with cooler air temperatures over the Brisbane and Scenic Rim regions.
