The Bureau of Meteorology has warned locations which may be affected include Kingaroy, Cherbourg, Murgon, Yarraman, Nanango and Tiaro.

Nearby areas of Maryborough, Gympie and Dalby can also expect rainfall into Sunday evening.

BOM said 53mm was recorded at Rangermore (west of Cooyar) in the hour to 4:25pm on Sunday afternoon.

The weather system, resulting from a low pressure trough sitting around the south eastern interior and stretching all the way up to the Gulf of Carpentaria, is expected to continue and increase to a high chance of continued showers and thunderstorms heading into Monday morning around the affected regions.

It comes a day after severe thunderstorms smashed Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

The warning also comes as Tropical Cyclone Kimi is expected to cross the North Tropical Coast north of Cairns Monday morning.
