Queensland will continue to battle through surging temperatures this week as low-intensity heatwaves have been declared across the state.
Heat surges across Queensland have been persisting since the Bureau of Meteorology declared an El Niño in September this year and senior meteorologist Harry Clark warns residents for the coming summer.
“Compared to previous years it is looking to be a much warmer and drier next few months,” Mr Clark said.
“We’re seeing heat build across the interior of the state and that is really going to start pushing eastwards during the coming week.”
Temperatures are forecast to peak on Wednesday in the low 40s or low 30s for the interior or southeast regions respectively, following which south-easterly winds will bring gusts of cool air.
“There could be thunderstorms around this week but most of them aren’t going to contain a lot of rainfall,” Mr Clark said.
“Once we get to Thursday we have the potential to see a bit more rainfall.”
Seventeen-year-old Olivia Adamson plans to beat the heat poolside this week.
“I have two dogs, they both love the pool,” Ms Adamson said.
“Drink lots of water… and [apply] lots of sunscreen.”
