Brisbane residents woke to a city covered by a sea of dense fog on Sunday.
The weather bureau warned the reduced visibility made road conditions dangerous, and urged Brisbane residents to take extra care on the road and water.
The fog also saw ferry services delayed by half an hour until it started to clear just after 8am.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Steven Hadley said the fog was giving way to a cool sunny day.
“The temperature in Brisbane is going to be below the August average, which is about 23 degrees and we’re expecting 22 today,” Mr Hadley said.
“There will also be a bit of a westerly breeze developing up to around 25 to 35 kilometres per hour during the morning, which will help, blow away the fog”.
Minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to drop a couple degrees below average from Sunday through to Thursday.
But the cold snap won’t last long, a warmer spell is expected on Friday which will see temperatures rise above average during the daytime, but still a little below average at night.

“It’s gonna be a dry week apart from perhaps a shower or storm on Tuesday,” Mr Hadley said.
“There’ll be some overnight frost as well through inland parts of Southeast Queensland.
“We’ve got expectations of lows of around one or two degrees in Stanthorpe through Tuesday, Wednesday, so definitely some frost around there, potentially around the outskirts of Ipswich and in Lockyer Valley as well”.
