A Central Queensland town has dipped to 0C this morning and the Bureau of Meteorology reported snow flurries near Stanthorpe overnight as Queensland’s first winter cold snap of the year settles in.
BOM said that snow flurries were reported just over the border from Stanthorpe in Northern NSW late yesterday while Biloela locals woke to a freezing 0.3C today, although the ‘apparent’ temperature is even colder, with it feeling like -3.1C at 5.30am.
Rockhampton was sitting at 4.9C at 5.30am, but it felt like 2.5C.
Blackall dropped to 1.8C this morning, while it was just 2.3C at Longreach.
Further north, 7.2C was recorded at Mackay Airport, while Townsville was a more balmy 10.2C, but it felt like 8.9C there.
In the Wide Bay area, Gympie has shivered away, recording just 0.9C at 5.30am, with the apparent temperature there being -0.9C, while it was 1.3C in Kingaroy and 2.3C in Gayndah and 3.8C in Maryborough.
In the southeast corner, Brisbane was sitting at 8.2C at 5.40am, but it felt like 6.7C. It was 10.9C on the Gold Coast, while on the Sunshine Coast, Nambour recorded 5.2C.
In Stanthorpe, where there had been talk of the possibility of snow earlier in the week, the temperature was sitting at 4.8C early this morning, with the apparent temperature at 1C.
