Residents in southern Queensland have woken up to a cold start to the week, with temperatures hitting 0C in some areas.
It comes as residents in other parts of the state have been warned of the possibility of significant rainfall by the end of the week.
Applethorpe on the southern Darling Downs recorded a low of 0.1C while Warwick, Oakey and Wellcamp Airport reached lows of 1C.
At 6am, the ‘feels like’ apparent temperature in Oakey was -1.1C.
Amberley reached a low of 3.5C and felt like 2.5C at 6am, while Archerfield bottomed out at 6.4C.
At 6am, Brisbane was 9.5C. It will be a mostly sunny day in the city today, with an expected top of 23C.
After a relatively dry June, unseasonable rain is expected to hit parts of the state over the next week.
A rain band is set to develop over Queensland later this week, according to BOM meteorologist Kimba Wong, who said it will likely hit the north west of the state from Thursday.
“It’s typically a dry time of the year for much of Queensland, so it’s definitely unseasonable rain,” Ms Wong said.
“With that cloud cover as well, we’ll have cooler day time temperatures and a bit of wind around as well.”
Initial predictions will see the rain band move eastbound and potentially hit parts of southwest Queensland with Ms Wong saying there could be significant rainfall for the weekend and into early next week.
And the wet weather might linger around with Ms Wong saying there will likely be above average rainfall for the southern two thirds of the state for the month of July.
