Rain and rumbles across the southeast are expected to ease in time for the Easter weekend but meteorologists say we’re still a few days from idyllic beach weather.
Majority of showers impacting Queensland’s southern corner into this morning are expected to move offshore by this afternoon.
Steven Hadley from the Bureau of Meteorology said a few showers could remain for the region on Friday but the focus would be more towards the coastal fringe.
“Through Saturday and Sunday it should just be one or two showers – generally just a slight to moderate chance of showers,” the meteorologist said.
A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea, however, will continue to whip up south-easterly winds which could make for windy beach days for those heading to the coast for the long weekend.
A weak low is also expected to develop in the northern Coral Sea which could produce some decent swell across Queensland beaches.
Mr Hadley said Monday had the best odds of fine weather, as the wind and swell eased, for those wanting to hit the beach over the break.
Further up the Queensland coast, there could be some isolated shower activity between Bundaberg and Ingham.
“North of Ingham, there’s a bit more in the way of shower activity particularly around the North Tropical Coast so Mission Beach, Innisfail could catch a few showers across the weekend,” Mr hadley said.
“Likewise, north of Cairns where there’s a few showers about the Daintree sort of area.
“Cairns is not looking to bad but there’s still as light chance of a shower around.
Showers and storms are on the cards for the Cape York Peninsula.
Those heading west for a camping trip should catch fine weather with no rain forecast across the state’s interior.
Temperatures are near average for the bulk of the state.
