Southeast Queensland is in for a soggy long weekend as a trough brings damaging winds and thunderstorms to the coast.
Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast will see some patchy rainfall overnight before thunderstorms roll in on Saturday afternoon.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jonty Hall said it was the latest in a pattern of unusual weather behaviour.

SW Queensland could see more rainfall on Friday, while Saturday will see SE Qld get a bit soggy with totals likely to be less than those seen last week. A trough will also likely bring gusty thunderstorms to areas. Find your #QLDweather forecast: https://t.co/ZwIhduNHUJ pic.twitter.com/bnrdzacwQ6

Winds are expected to reach up to 46km/h off the coast ahead of the storms and a low pressure system.
“There won’t be a whole lot of rain, they are fast-moving storms, but there is potential for gusty to damaging winds,” Mr Hall said.
“There will be a brief period of heavy rainfall.”
It comes amid an unusually warm August day, with the mercury reaching 26 in Brisbane on Friday, three degrees above the average.
That will quickly change on Sunday.
“We will see a significant change, albeit briefly, once the trough moves through,” Mr Hall said.
“Sunday and Monday, there will be a significant cool-down in temperatures.”
