Thunderstorms north of Brisbane have weakened and moved offshore, but not before dumping small hail in some areas.

A severe storm warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology was cancelled just before 6pm.

The Bureau forecast storms earlier in the day, but for areas south of Brisbane.

Earlier today, forecaster Shane Kennedy said the storms would develop through the afternoon and evening.

“We are not expecting too much in the way of rainfall, mainly just a few millimetres here and there if we get any thunderstorms we could see more rainfall in the 5-10mm range.

Mr Kennedy said on Friday it would be clearer in the morning but in the afternoon there could be some showers again.

Conditions should be fine across the weekend.
