IT’S not quite winter but you’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise after temperatures dropped to below 0C in parts of the state’s south overnight.
The Darling Downs was the coldest place, with a powerful cold front passing across the state seeing Oakey hit -0.4C at about 5.35am.
Kingaroy also saw freezing temperatures as the mercury dipped to -0.1C. Roma dropped to 0.7C at about 6.30am, as minimum temperatures plummeted by 15C.

Elsewhere Beaudesert dropped to 2.6C overnight, Charleville to 2.7C, Canungra 3.1C, Coolangatta 5.7C.
Brisbane dipped to a low of 10.4C about 5am but was back up to 15C by 7.40am although it felt much cooler, with an apparent temperature of 10.8C.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jonty Hall said cool conditions were expected into the middle of next week.
“The overnight minimums will drop away … but very similar days really with similar wind speeds,” he said.
“There is plenty of sunshine around, but there still will be a fair bit of this westerly breeze – the best bet, like on a typical winters day, will be to get out of the wind and into the sunshine.”
Brisbane is expected to reach a top of 24C maximum today and tomorrow. Frost is forecast in the state’s southern interior.
