South East Queenslanders can expect some relief from the wet weather caused by an intense low-pressure system, says the Bureau of Meteorology.
Senior meteorologist Felim Hanniffy says the weather system that unleashed heavy rainfall over southern Queensland and northern New South Wales is no longer a threat.
“The low-pressure system is continuing well offshore, heading towards the North Island of New Zealand” he said.
“We’re expecting very little in terms of rain over the next few days, and temperatures are expected to be 4C to 7C above average until Wednesday.
However, a return in cooler temperatures and chilly mornings was expected for the second half of the week due to wind changes, said Mr Hanniffy.
A hazardous surf warning issued by the bureau remained in place for Gold Coast beaches for Monday, due to southeasterly winds caused by the low pressure system moving offshore, which is expected to ease off by Monday evening.
