Brisbane shivers through coldest June morning in seven years

Brisbane residents have woken to the coldest June morning in seven years, with temperatures across the southeast as much as eight degrees below average.

Snow Report

Brisbane has shivered through its coldest morning in two years and coldest June morning in seven years with the mercury dropping to just 6.5C.

The chilly weather comes as the cold front that gripped Australia’s east coast last week passed but it has left dry cool air in its wake.

Bureau Meteorologist Pieter Claasson said the southeast in general was four to eight degrees below average.

“The fact the winds have dropped back down now means the overnight temperatures can drop lower,” Mr Claasson said.

“Even though daytime temperatures are getting back to average the light winds keep things cool overnight.”

Ipswich and Beaudesert dropped to near freezing, falling to 1.2C and 1.1C for their coldest morning of the year so far.

Surfers on the Sunshine Coast would’ve had their wetsuits zipped up with a chilly 5.5C.

Canungra was the coldest spot in the southeast recording 0.5C at 7am this morning.

The cold spread through the Darling Downs region with Warwick recording -0.7C and Oakey at -0.5C.

We are in for another cool morning on Monday with Brisbane set for 9C but as the moisture starts to come back Brisbane will jump back up to 14C by Wednesday.
