South East Queenslanders have endured what is likely to be the coldest morning of the week, with the mercury plunging to low single digits and the ‘feels like’ temperatures dropping even further.
The place with the coldest temperatures just after 6am on Monday morning was Applethorpe, coming in at an apparent temperature of -2.9 degrees and actual temperature of -0.8 degrees.
Bureau of Meteorology Senior forecaster Matthew Bass said the winds will change by Wednesday this week and bring warmer easterly air off the Coral Sea.
“We’re probably in the coldest morning this week,” Mr Bass said.
“The coming mornings will be warmer along the coastal fringe by two to five degrees.
“Inland may still be cold, including some of those areas up near inland Townsville and the Great Divide.”
The Bureau predicted warmer temperatures throughout most of eastern Queensland by Wednesday.
“Maximum temperatures will slowly increase towards the end of this week,” Mr Bass said.
